EASA/JAR Licences - Modular or Integrated?

EASA/JAR lists requirements for all current professional licences obtained in either Modular or Integrated courses. In essence "modular" means that the student may obtain the licence in "bites" each of which remain valid for a given time. This approach is ultimately more costly but the student may spread the cost over a longer period of time. The sum of the requirements to obtain a licence over the "modular route" is greater than in the "Integrated" route.

Integrated requirements take account of continuity of training and allow the qualification to be obtained with lower overall training time although the costs of this approach would not be spread out as much as in the Modular route.

EASA/JAR licences are as follows:

  • ATPL Airline Transport Pilots Licence
  • CPL Commercial Pilots Licence
  • MPL Multi Pilot Licence
  • MCC Multi Crew Cooperation

All can be completed as modules except the MPL, which is only an integrated course.

Most TRTO’s and FTO’s recommend the Integrated approach for most qualifications.

Licences can therefore be obtained as follows:

  • ATPL From Ab initio or PPL (via CPL/IR)
    Ref-EASA Part FCL-APP 3-Part A
  • MPL From Ab initio
    Ref-EASA Part FCL-APP 5
  • CPL From Ab initio or PPL
    Ref-EASA Part FCL-APP 3-Part D
  • CPL/IR From Ab initio or PPL
    Ref-EASA Part FCL-APP 3-Part C

Use of MPS devices for Licences

Whether the course is Modular or Integrated, MPS devices are qualified to address training as follows:

  • ATPL Integrated

    15 hours MCC (note this is 5 hours less than if the MCC qualification is obtained in a module, in which case 20 hours is the minimum)

    40 hours Instrument instruction

  • ATPL Modular

    N/A as this would be an upgrade from CPL/IR and theory only.

  • CPL/IR Integrated

    40 hours Instrument instruction

  • CPL Modular

    5 hours Instrument instruction

  • CPL Integrated

    5 hours Instrument instruction

  • Multi Pilot Licence

    MPL (must incorporate MCC)

    MPL phase 2-Basic

    MPL phase 3-Intermediate (and see AIC W064/2010 in which the need for further evaluation by feedback is described)All training can be undertaken on MPS devices, (phase 4-Advanced requires a FFS for the time being)

  • MCC

    All the training (20 hours minimum) can be done on our device.
